Lyrics:

I am disappointed every morning that I wake up

I am disappointed by the feeling of waking up next to you

You call me up, and let me know that

That my sick guilt is so unwelcome, it’s so unwelcome, yeah

I hear noises in the darkness, I hear sadness in your voice

I hear noises in the darkness, I hear sadness inside you

My health is failing me

And so I flip on the television and watch sad movies

And look for sad, sick people like me

Call me up and let me know that

That my sick guilt is so unwelcome

I’m so unwelcome, I’m so unwelcome

I hear noises in the darkness, I hear sadness in your voice

I hear noises in the darkness, I hear sadness inside you

We could go (We could go)

We could go through the front door (Through the front door)

We could go (We could go)

We’re going through the front door (Through the front door)

We could go (We could go)

We’re going through the front door (Through the front door)

We could go (We could go)

I come in through the front door, through the front door

And the pills, they will not, will not, will not, will not let me go

And I will not, will not, will not let you drink yourself alone

You call me up, and let me know that

That my sick guilt is so unwelcome

You’re so unwelcome, you’re so unwelcome

I hear noises in the darkness, I hear sadness in your voice

I hear noises in the darkness, I hear sadness inside you

I hear noises in the darkness, I hear sadness inside you

I hear sadness inside you

Trivia and Quotes:

“Tegan and I were absolutely 100% addicted to this record that my parents had, the soundtrack to the film called Phantom of the Paradise. [...] We actually did a video where we paid homage to it and ripped off this scene from Phantom of the Paradise.” - Sara in 2009

“We shot a video at the Eastern Cultural Centre for the song. [...] We spoofed this old movie from the 70s called Phantom of the Paradise. [...] We watched it when we were little kids, my parents were really weird, and we used to dance around in the basement to it, that was our first sort of singing experience was just hanging out with the kids in the hood. But we spoofed this movie, and there’s this character Swan, and he runs this record label called Death Records and he gets artists to sign their souls to the devil to be famous, cause he sold his soul to the devil so I guess that’s kind of like a prerequisite, you have to like wanna be able to get other people to do it. [...] The character in the movie, or in our video was this guy Mike, and he used to tour manage us and he had to wear high shoes. [...] Mike had to wear these platform shoes and the only thing I really remember about this music video was at the end of the day Mike coming and he’s an all together kind of dirty guy, like he just doesn’t like to change his clothes, he lives in his car, it’s pretty cool. He took the shoes off and they had been like two sizes too small for him and all of his nails were like broken off and bloody and he’d been walking around all day with these shoes, they were two sizes too small with no socks on. Totally insane, so. Something to think about.” - Tegan in 2004
