Lyrics:

Orange Demo version:

Climbed up on a rainbow just to see if I'd fall off

I'm a frosted lemon coward and I don't know how

No, I don't know to hold you without shaking

No, I'm not aware of how I could possibly love you without aching

Yes, I give you everything, yes, I give you anything, I gave you everything

Gotta watch myself, I gotta love myself and take care

So keep the light on before ya hop in a bed

‘Cause baby this is the last honest look I'll ever give

Saved up all my sunshine just to see you more clear (Climbed up on a rainbow just to see)

I'm a little short on solar and I haven't given up (Climbed up on a rainbow just to see)

Gonna hold you anyway and I'll do it without shaking (Saved up all my sunshine just for me)

Yes, I'll love you always and I'll do it without aching (Saved up all my sunshine just for me)

Yes, I'd give you everything, yes, I'd give you anything, I gave you everything

Gotta watch myself, I gotta love myself and take care of my

So keep the light on before ya hop in a bed

‘Cause baby this is the last look you’ll ever get

I'd give you anything, I give you everything, I gave you everything

Gotta watch myself, I gotta love myself and take care

Yeah, gave you, I gave you, I gave you everything

So I gotta, watch myself and love myself and take care

And so, this is your last look, this is your last look, this is your last look

Yeah, this is your last look, this is your last look, this is your last look

And so keep the light on before ya hop in a bed

‘Cause baby this is the last honest look I'll ever give

Under Feet Like Ours version:

Climbed up on a rainbow just to see if I'd fall off

No I don't know how to hold you without shaking

No I'm not aware of how I could possibly love you without aching

Yes, I’d give you everything

Yes, I give you anything

I gave you everything

Got to watch myself, I've got to love myself and take care

And so keep the light on before ya hop in a bed

‘Cause baby this is the last honest look I'll ever give

I saved up all my sunshine just to see you more clear

I'm a little short on solar but I haven't given in

No, I’m gonna hold you anyway and I'll do it without shaking

Yes, I'll love you always and I'll do it without aching

Yes, I'd give you anything

Yes, I'd give you anything

I gave you everything

Gotta watch myself, I’ve gotta love myself and take care

And so keep the light on before ya hop in a bed

‘Cause baby, this is the last honest look I’ll ever give

I’d give you everything

I give you anything

I gave you everything

Gotta watch myself, I’ve gotta love myself and take care

Yeah, gave you, I gave you, I gave you everything

So I’ve gotta watch myself and love myself and take care

This is your last look, this is your last look, this is your last look

Yeah, this is your last look

This is your last look, this is your last look

And so keep the light on before ya hop in a bed

‘Cause baby this is the last honest look I'll ever give

Trivia and Quotes:

  • There was a music video made of the live performance on February 16, 2005 that was included in the It's Not Fun. Don't Do It! DVD.

  • Some of the lyrics were originally written by Sara, which Tegan stole for this song, including the lyric 'frosted lemon coward'.

“I wrote This Is Everything but a couple of the verses are Sara’s lyrics. That I stole from her. Shh don’t tell her.” - Tegan in 2010

“People still, to this day, ask me what a frosted lemon coward is and I'm like, Sara on acid?” - Tegan

July 11, 2001:

Sara: This is a song that I kind of wrote, but then me and Tegan do this all the time, like I'll be like “ugh that's so horrible” and then she'll sort of pick it up and make it into a way better song. And you're like, oh yeah that was a good one that I wrote but it wasn't really your song anymore. But it was right when we got out of high school and I remember too it was on our 18th birthday, we turned 18 and we had just graduated high school. And I remember this is the first time we, like my mom had like all our friends over and a bunch of her friends and we had a big party for our 18th birthday and we got drunk and I remember Tegan played this in the basement. And I remember thinking it was really cool. And I was like, Tegan is sooo cool.

Tegan: Were you high?

Sara: No, no, I was drunk. But it was like- [audience laughter] Not that I'm like being all like y'know rocker or whatever, I mean it was my 18th birthday and I probably had like 5 beers so it's not like I was like, y'know like- mainlining vodka in my eye or something. But anyway, I remember thinking Tegan was so cool, like I was like, yeah... it was one of those moments. Now though, we hate playing it, I'm like ugh. But back then? Yeah, it was rock.
